About the Exhibition

Mother Care by Kelly Klick is a multidisciplinary tribute to the people and movements that made midwifery a recognized and regulated profession in Manitoba. Enacted 25 years ago, the Midwifery Act laid the groundwork for families across the province to access prenatal, birth, and postpartum care rooted in informed consent, choice, and continuity.

Klick honours this legacy through a thoughtful combination of clay sculpture, painting, rug hooking, and assemblage. Her works reflect the emotional, physical, and political labour behind delivering feminist-based care—and celebrate those who continue to uphold these values in communities across Manitoba.

Rich in texture and meaning, Mother Care is both a celebration and a call to remember the ongoing efforts to ensure equitable healthcare for all.
