About the Exhibition

The Joy of Revival by Sylke van Niekerk and Evolving Balance/Disjointed by Derrick S. Rachul bring together two distinct Manitoba voices exploring transformation, resilience, and connection to the natural world.

Through vibrant, textured paintings, The Joy of Revival reflects on renewal, growth, and the quiet power of nature to restore us. Van Niekerk’s intuitive, colour-rich works invite viewers into a joyful visual experience shaped by emotion and memory.

In contrast, Evolving Balance/Disjointed showcases Rachul’s sculptural woodwork—pieces carved from reclaimed Manitoba ash and oak, shaped outdoors and guided by the natural grain of the material. Working under the name Roam Wood Modern, Rachul draws on his deep relationship with trees and wood to create works that are both raw and refined.

Together, the exhibitions highlight two unique practices rooted in care, curiosity, and the rhythms of the land.
